The Nigerian Law School was set up by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 1962. The aim of the institution was to provide for the local needs the then foreign trained lawyers and to provide the much needed practical training to those aspiring to become Legal Practitioners in Nigeria .The Lagos Campus was set up and was later moved to its current location in 1969.
CHALLENGE:
The Lagos campus in Victoria Island, Lagos has about six (6) departments namely Administration Office, Academics Office, Student Affairs Office, Clinic, Establishment, Information Technology and Security Office. Unfortunately, neither of these offices was wired for fiber and the existing network service to these offices was undesirable and unable to handle the bandwidth requirements of high-speed internet users.
The institution needed to equip these units with high-speed internet access in order to ensure efficient service delivery. The option of adding a fiber link directly to each department would prove to be cost prohibitive because of the initial investment required plus the recurring leased line charges.
SOLUTION:
To address these challenges, Weco Systems made provision for 2mbps Lease Line circuit (Fiber connectivity). The solutions include Installation of radio link between WECO Point of Presence and Law School, integration of Fiber Internet Solution and this culminated in the System Testing and Documentation. The solution aided extension of the fiber connection across all the offices.
The 2mbps Lease Line circuit is capable of spanning distances up to 50 km (30 miles) using external parabolic antennas. With its high spectral efficiency, large capacity, and rich feature-set, the Lease Line circuit family is a competitive option for backhaul applications. When used in a point-to-point configuration, the radios can deliver throughputs exceeding 45 mbps of actual TCP/IP traffic. A Campus-wide Wi-fi network was also implemented by Weco Systems. The Wi-Fi provided seamless access for end users everywhere in the campus.
RESULTS:
Using this solution to extend the fiber backbone, the various departments were equipped to provide staff with broadband Internet access quickly because there was no need for time consuming and expensive telephone company service delays.
Independent tests show the improvements after the switch to the fiber internet solution. The results show that the departments are receiving a ten-fold improvement in bandwidth. “This project was a tremendous success, by deploying this solution we were able to provide our clients a huge improvement in the services offered. The business advantage is superb, because the equipment is unlicensed, the institution now own the entire network infrastructure. The deployment of these solutions exceeded the client’s expectations and are delivering maximum traffic to the institution’s live network, says Obafele Iweibo, Project Manager at Weco Systems.”
CONCLUSION:
With the Lease Line Circuit, departments, offices and buildings can be linked quickly and inexpensively. There are also no costly telephone company monthly line charges to pay or telephone company service delays to endure.
Weco Systems secured everything required to set up, use and manage the project. Weco Systems can assist in integrating broadband access equipment with existing network gear, a process that takes only a matter of hours.
